Turbo training tonight 7:30pm at Murrintown CC

Turbo training sessions start back this Thursday 10th January.

A great way to get some quality training in on these dark winter evenings.

Please bring: turbo trainer, towel, bike, bike shoes, drink, 4euro, enthusiasm.  There are a few turbo trainers to borrow if you do not have your own, please text 0874163904 to reserve one.

What is a turbo training and why would I want to do it?

A turbo trainer is a piece of equipment that makes it possible to ride
a bicycle while it remains stationary.
They are commonly used to train indoors when conditions outside are
not favourable, particularly on dark, wet winter evenings.
An advantage of turbo training is that it makes  very specific
interval training much easier to regulate (e.g. don’t have to worry
about dodging cars, whilst also trying to go at close to your max
heart rate).
However, it can be difficult to find the motivation for a solo turbo session.
We therefore plan to start a Wexford Tri club turbo training session.

What will the sessions be like?
These sessions will be run as a progressive training programme.
Resistance is controlled by the rider, so everybody can work at their
own level. We’ll target particular heart rate and/or power zones
depending on the equipment available so we know how hard we are
working. We plan to do a RAMP test in the first couple of weeks to
determine power and/or heart rate training zones.  We’ll then do
another one in a few months time to gauge progress.

When and where is the club session?
The session will run on Thursdays 7:30-8:30 in Murrintown Community Centre.

Do I need my own turbo trainer?
Ideally, regulars at the sessions will have their own, although there
will be a limited number of club turbos which can be hired – please book in advance.

How much will it cost?
The sessions will be €4. We may have to review the cost
per session depending on numbers attending.
