With many club members tapering for Galway next weekend only a handful made the short trip to Dunmore East on Saturday. Nonetheless we were all placed beside each other in transition at numbers 2,3 and 4 (Tom Cousins, Luke Goff and myself)
It was a nice day for a race, overcast but with the sun peeping out on occasion. A later start than usual with the race briefing at 11am where we were informed the there were stinging jellyfish in the water to watch out for which filled everyone with confidence! After trotting over to the starting beach to acclimatise we were called out for the beach start. The water was surprisingly clear and reasonably calm, all three of us came out with reasonable swim times after struggling up the hill from the beach to transition.
Tom flew off on the bike and Luke zipped past me in the last few k of a toughish cycle with a few small hills. Then we transitioned for the 5k run which was 2k vertically up to start!
A good race all in all and reasonable times for the club athletes.
