I completed my first triathlon in Laois in April, a Sprint distance with a pool swim was perfect to get me started. With that, the club asked that I write a short note on the experience so far.
I had good company on the day with Kate Kelly, Gillian Power, Sandra Goldsmith and Denise Underwood all taking part too. Their advice around transition and set up was invaluable…along with a few scary war stories to get the adrenalin flowing 🙂
1:25 was the result which I’m more than happy as a starting point.
Having never done a triathlon, promising myself I never would and then out of no where starting to train for one…the 8 month build up has been a great experience, with the swim being the biggest hurdle. Last September my first trip to the pool saw me struggle to do a 100m test having to stop several times. Heike, Kate, Sean, Paul and all of the swim class have been a great help to me.
As I continue to work towards my first Half Iron Man in June I can honestly say I’m loving the journey and Triathlon is definitely for me.
Many thanks to Sean Collier, Brendan Sydney, Kate Kelly, Linda Scanlon, Heike and many more in the club for the help and guidance so far, and the company on long bike rides.
Swim bike run…never thought id put all 3 together in one race. Usually it took a month.
Consistency in training and not over doing it has been the key for me.
Thanks everyone.
